Statement from Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst Regarding Child Labor Rule

“February 1st the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced it will re-propose part of its onerous child labor rule.  DOL could have — and still can — withdraw the proposal as Farm Bureau and others have asked.  Instead officials think we need more time to think about the rule — or at least the parental exemption interpretation part of it.  Hands-on training afforded to youth through high school agriculture education and FFA is still in jeopardy.

Flood Recovery Funds and Flexibility Needed for Missouri Farmers

A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement last week regarding the availability of funding for the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWPP) was welcome news for Missouri farmers, landowners and communities affected by natural disasters in 2011. However, farmers and ranchers in northwest Missouri might not be on the receiving end for EWPP funding due to unfortunately placed program deadlines.
