JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Incumbent Vicky Hartzler was endorsed on August 15, 2012, by trustees of Missouri Farm Bureau’s 4th Congressional FARM-PAC. Hartzler, a Republican, is serving her first term as U.S. Representative for the 4th District. She is running against Democratic opponent Teresa Hensley. Both Hartzler and Hensley are from Cass County.
Trustees met in Sedalia to review the candidates' records on rural and farm issues. Both candidates were invited and Hartzler did attend to make comments and answer questions. Afterwards, trustees voted on the endorsement.
FARM-PAC Trustee Charles Bassett of Dixon said Hartzler's voting record closely follows Farm Bureau policies. “Congresswoman Hartzler has a 100 percent record in voting with Farm Bureau’s position on issues affecting rural Missourians. She has been a very effective freshman representative of the 4th District and deserves our continued support,” said Bassett.
Missouri Farm Bureau’s regional FARM-PACs are political action committees of farmers and ranchers who are selected as trustees by their county Farm Bureau organizations. The trustees interview the candidates running in the general election, review their voting records, and seek their positions on issues. For any endorsement to stand, two-thirds of the vote tallied must favor a candidate.
