WOTUS

If You Can't #FloatUs, It's Not Wotus!

Thought WOTUS was gone forever? Some issues never die, they just come back in different forms. Although the Obama-era WOTUS rule is on its way out, the laws governing which Waters of the United States are deemed “navigable” still need clarification. We hope to influence the new version of the WOTUS rule to be common-sense rather than onerous.

AFBF has started a social media campaign to draw attention to this issue called “If you can’t #FloatUs, it’s not #WOTUS.” The centerpiece of the campaign is a yellow rubber duckie with the hashtag #FloatUs on the front.

We’re looking for creative pictures or videos of rubber duckies on dry land (NOT floating) to show that dry land should not be regulated as a Water of the United States. In other words, if you can’t #FloatUs, it’s not #WOTUS.

We will have fabulous prizes for the best photo and best video! To qualify, you must include the red language below. If you don't want to use an actual rubber duckie, you can download a duck image to print. Simply cut it out and attach it to a popsicle stick to use it as a prop for your photo/video.

Once you have your duck, please do the following:

1. Find a good place on your land that should not be regulated under a reasonable WOTUS rule

2. Take a picture or video of your duck on that land (the more creative the better)

3. Upload it to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

4.In the description of your photo or video, include the following, word for word:

If you can’t #FloatUs it’s not #WOTUS. Waters of the United States should be wet. We need #CleanWaterClearRules. #MOFB

For an example of a creative video, check out this 51-second short produced by Mark Baumgartner in Public Affairs.

We’ll be sharing your work, so make them great and have fun!
